Internal Complaint Committee

As per the guidelines of Supreme Court, AICTE, and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013, Internal Complaint Committee is hereby formed with a view to providing protection against discrimination and sexual harassment of women at workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and for matters connected therewith or incidents arising in this regard. The Internal Complaint Committee will be responsible for the redressal of complaints made by employees/students and ensure time-bound solution of the complaints as provided in the Act.


Objective:

The objectives of the Internal Complaint Committee to Prevent Sexual Harassment of Women at the institute are as follow.

  • To build up a policy against sexual harassment of women at the Institute.
  • To create a deterrence against sexual harassment by execution of the institute policies and redressal of sexual harassment cases and other acts of gender-based violence at the institute.
  • To make sure the execution of the policy through proper reporting of the complaints and their follow up procedures.
  • To maintain an atmosphere in the institute free of gender-based discrimination and maintain an assurance of action against sexual harassment and gender discrimination.
  • To create a safe and sound physical and social environment to put off any act of sexual harassment.
  • To promote a social and emotional environment to raise awareness on sexual harassment.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Without prejudice to the generality of functions mentioned, the Roles & Responsibilities of Internal Complaint Committee is as under:

  • To develop a policy against sexual harassment of women at the Institute.
  • To prevent discrimination and sexual harassment, by promoting gender amity among students and employees.
  • To make recommendations to the management for changes/elaborations in the rules in the Student Hand Book and Employees Hand book, so that policies and rules are gender just and to lay down procedures for the prohibition, resolution, settlement and prosecution of acts of discrimination and sexual harassment, by the students and the employees.
  • To ensure the implementation of the policy in writing and in the spirit both through proper reporting of the complaints and their follow-up procedures.
  • To deal with cases of discrimination and sexual harassment against women, in a time bound manner, aiming at ensuring support services to the victims and termination of the harassment.
  • To recommend appropriate punitive action to the Management against the party found guilty of sexual harassment and gender discrimination.

Composition of the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC)


Punishment for sexual harassment:

Any member of the institute fraternity (student/employee/outsider related to institute) found guilty of sexual harassment shall be liable to be punished. This shall be subject to the same penalties for major or minor misconduct as prescribed under government/ university rules.
A student guilty of sexual harassment shall be liable for any of the following penalties:

  • Warning or reprimand.
  • Suspension from college for a period of one month.
  • Debarment from appearing for the examination for a period up to three years.
  • Rustication from the college as the case may be.
  • Any other punishment as defined by the government / university act
